LGBT people, rights under threat in Africa, Eastern Europe As pride season is marked around the world, the climate for LGBT rights is decidedly mixed, with activists especially concerned about the potential for anti-gay violence and legislation in Africa and Eastern Europe. "In a lot of countries, you've got gays and lesbians enjoying new visibility, but at the same time the opposition forces become more angry," said Scott Long of Human Rights Watch.
